Why, oh why, are there so many ovals in my kitchen?! Arggg!

Paella Pan

I've always had an affinity for a paella pan. No idea why. Possibly my several-generations-back Spanish ancestry...? This one is a no-frills (well the red handles are something) get-the-job-done paella pan.

I believe this is the last of our coffee making tools.

Paella Rice | monica loos

Paella Rice

We cooked up our first paella. Substituted octopus for squid, but it threw us off a bit, as we've never prepared octopus before, and it came up a bit rubbery. We have some room for improvement, but overall, it was quite tasty! And just how great is the packaging on this rice?!

 Pichuberries

These caught my eye in the produce section at first glance, because of their color. I then noticed they hail from Colombia, as do my parents and many of my childhood summer memories. They are quite enjoyable. Mildly sweet and also a little tart. Like nature's Sweettarts. They grow in a little thin husk like a tomatillo and are shaped like raspberry-sized blueberries. A fun discovery that I may not have made today if I weren't on the lookout for something to paint.

It's the time of year when my boys cannot get enough of placing this fowl little things in places they think will scare me. This one was in with the spoons. Ick! I had to detach from my brain to paint it.

California Olive Ranch Olive Oil

Tasty, fresh goodness in a bottle. It's always fun doing lettered items, as you are forced to write in a way different than your own.

Not sure if he'll make it. The whole plant is looking a bit lack luster. Good luck, little one! 365_362

Measuring Cups

The metal kind. Painted using only one color paint: Mars Black

p.s. Sorry my posts have been so random. My intent is to be daily, but sometimes client work, kid stuff, car stuff, life stuff has a way of butting in. Thank you for hanging in there with me!

A bird's eye view - assuming that bird is in my kitchen sitting atop the light fixture.

By the way, I painted this using this Schmincke palette that I came across while foraging for artist's tape in my husband's art supply stash. Turns out it used to belong to his mother. She used in in college (she studied textile design), which makes the set over 50 years old! All but a few colors are working nicely. Here's a photo:
